Hi. This is my first post, although I've been a long-time lurker and beneficiary of the AMAZING COLLECTIVE WISDOM on this site.

I've been restoring a Supreme Audolyzer. It's been recapped and works pretty well, but the "E" band seems to be weak. If I feed it modulated RF signals, the volume is much quieter on the E band than on the other bands. Also, if I attach the Audolyzer to a longwire antenna and just use it as a radio all the bands get excellent reception other than the "E" band.

I'm a little confounded about what might be causing the weak "E" band and how to fix it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Brian

Some good information about the "E" band here.

Thanks for the replies.

Just for clarification, I have the Audolyzer, not the Vedolyzer, so the repair job is MUCH less complex than in that Carlson video. But yeah, that guy knows his electronics. Wow. The Audolyzer is just an old signal tracer, with VTVM and ohmmeter built it. There's no cathode ray tube or anything like that. I also read through the webpage on the Audolyzer, which is useful. I appreciate the links...

To specify my question further: The tuning on the E band is accurate--that is, if I send in modulated RF signal on for that band, and set the dial, I can hear it at the correct frequency. That would lead me to believe that the coils are tuned accurately--but maybe I'm overlooking something. Would there be a reason why one band is less sensitive (or has less volume) than another band? Could it be a capacitor issue that is filtering out high frequencies? Or if it is an issue with the tuning coils, how could I test it?

Any thoughts or ideas would be helpful...

Thanks again for your collective widsom.

Put him on in the background. His voice is so warm from his old tube equipment, it's almost like ASMR.

thanks did not catch that. I watched all the videos on this more then once and I could feel the pain from in the US. Carlson does not say much, but you could here it.. this had to be a bruiser. repair took long.

Its a interesting gear, like to get my hand on some.. good luck

In case anyone else runs into this issue, it is solved now. It turned out that the coils on the "E" band were not well tuned. I peaked them up and now it is working fine.
