Got my first tube tester. It's in ok condition. The Grid pot, a linear 5k, 5W, 5% with a spst gained switch on the back, the pot is open and looks to have very fine (1/10 hair size wire) wire hanging in there. It did not have the lamp mod like suggested online, that I found at fourwaters. Also, to make things worse someone 'spun' the set screw on the aluminum pot shaft and made it very difficult to get off. I thought it was corroded, nope just aluminum all gulled up.

Anyone have suggestions on the 5k pot? Sounds like it is a common or potential problem with this unit. Going to see if fourwaters has the 20% 5k pot. I can find 5k, 5w 10% with no spst.

File comment: Can't believe someone ground this open.

File comment: Gray very fine wires, you might be able to see the broken wire on left.

File comment: This looks like 5 separate windings to me? Must be for its linear function calibration?

The multiple different windings is not really a linear device? More like a stepped linear pot? This is designed to the circuit, or the circuit around it?

Thanks for the references. From looking at those on ebay, they look blue gray. The insides of mine look more gray. I did pick up a smoke gray spray bomb and that's to gray. So hard to compare colors w/o the unit or a chip in hand.
