Someone gave me an almost pristine Hikcock 510x. Anyway I have used a few newer Hikcocks before which had the 6 volt fuse bulb but this one seems to be behaving incorrectly or at least I think it is. When I insert a tube, and then do a line adjust I notice the fuse bulb goes to 100% full power. As in its fully lit and not the dull glow as seen on the others I've used. Otherwise it works fine. But I wasn't sure if these are supposed to burn the bulb right up to the bleeding edge like that.

No that is not normal. It is only going to light semi-brightly if you test a tube like a 5Z3.

Sounds like it may have the wrong bulb in there. Should be an 81, USA made.

The one that's in it I believe is a no.81. It says " 6-8 volts" on the side. So that seems to be correct.

I think that is the same or similar to the 51X (that I had for sale)?

I you have an original one and would like to trade for a calibrated one - with a few extra sockets, I could be persuaded.

yes, that is the same as I have and I might just consider your offer actually. I don't care if something has been modified as this is more for me to use for testing big pins. I don't think anyone has done anything to this one. I cracked it open to install a new plug and its all original inside. I assume you live in Nor-Cal? If someone buys yours that is fine as I would like to think about this for a little bit.

S. Oregon,

I was not going to bump the listing. The only reason I considered selling it was because of the extra sockets. I have a collection of testers as well as radios.

Let me know.

It was the bulb. I'm not a "light bub" expert and just assumed that the one in there was the right one, which it wasn't. I got the right one and all is well. So I reckon I'll just use this one anyway. Thanks guys!
