I got this radio at Kutztown for $30.00 last spring.. I was going to restore it to keep but I am limiting my collection...
The cabinet is crappy as there is a lot of separation, lifted, bubbled veneer tht was poorly repaired and the electronics were rusty..

Here she is:

The chassis has been fully restored and is playing quite well..
It was spacious and there were not too many caps to replace..

The cabinet had a side off so instead of just gluing it like the factory did, I added biscuits and clamped the heck out of it..
There were a few issues like veneer lifting but those were easy fixes..

This step was hard because of the poor repair I mentioned.. This was stripped and then left in a damp place.. The top started to buckle and they tried gluing down the veneer but didnt use clamps.. I could not repair this without re-veneering or sanding through the veneer to make it flat.. The finished product is not perfect due to this... I grain filled the top of the cabinet as it was the only walnut. The rest had no grain issues since it was solid pine..

This step was the usual.. I cleaned up all the corners and removed all the excess dried grain filler.
I then washed the cabinet with mineral spirits and let it dry.
I used perfect brown toner on the cabinet sides, trim, and a lighter coat on top..

The last step! I took the cabinet (after a week) and lightly sanded to 2000.
Then I took my 2F and 4F pumice and finish sanded her..
Lastly I took my rottenstone and buffed her to a mirror shine..

I will wait for a few weeks before waxing.. The lacquer has to cure from the inside out so no wax!

You can see the imperfections in the top where the grain is raised... Grrrrr...

Thats all folks.. She is done!
