I went back to the lady that sold me the Crosley clock radio on sunday. She emailed me and asked if I want some speakers. I said I'd come get them, since she said I could have them. Some HUGE speakers with no name on them.

I was loading them into my truck and she came out and asked if I wanted an old radio, and handed me this. It was dirty, but after I wiped it down, it's half decent.

I see no name brand on it. The power cord is a mess, and I doubt I would plug it in anyway. I will get a little more precise with cleaning it eventually.

Any ideas?

Bingo. That is it. Thanks!

It's kinda cute, in a weird sort of way. It appears to be complete. Rather heavy for it's size.

There was some tape on the bottom, I managed to take it off, and there's a label underneath that says that is a Model C640.

That one is called "The Rabbit". it is collectable because of the unique design.

C640 was the (Belmont manufactured) model sold by Gamble-Skogmo stores.

That radio is worthless. Take off the knob and screw on the side and ship it to me  .

Just kidding. That's actually a very nice radio. I have its cousin, an Airline 15br-1537b that uses similar knobs. Unfortunately, mine is missing the knobs and they are extremely hard to come by. I bet if someone made reproductions of the set screw for the knobs, they could make a lot of money.

Here's the radio:

After looking at it from a few angles......it would appear so.

what could I use to patch the small chips in the finish? Some sort of filler?

Bondo is the go-to filler.

Mix a pea-size of hardener to a golf-ball size of filler. Mix thoroughly. Don't hang around as it can go-off quickly. It's best not to make it too proud. Sand with some girly nail emery boards.

Color match/mix some artists acrylic paint.

I'm just pointing out reality without any bias or opinion. You can go and interpret that any way you want.

Nice radio. Please don't power it up until caps have been checked out!
Cheers,
Roger

I agree! It shows well and has no missing parts.

There were a couple of variations on that cabinet, and Belmont made them under several different brand names, before and after the war. I have the earlier version with the Delco name on it, from around 1939-40.

I have heard that version called the "pig".

One peculiarity of the tuner design, is that removing the tuning knob releases the pushbutton presets!

I do it for fun. I like old things. I enjoy the hunt. It’s not about money at all. It’s not a competition.

What something goes for on EBay matters not to me.
