You indeed do have a DuMont Tarrytown RA113-B7. What its value is I'll let others chime in. I don't have much invested in mine. But I really like the set. -Steve

Thanks Steve! I'm not much in to antiques, so I've never seen another. I know my grandmother bought it new with her first paycheck from Patterson Field (Wright Patt). I haven't plugged it in in years, but the turn table and radio worked then. The tube went out on the tv when I was a little girl and Grandma never got it fixed.

That's really cool! I happen to work there, so I can sort of relate. I bought an Apple laptop with my first paycheck. It would be best not to plug it in and try it as damage could possibly occur. Old capacitors have a tendency to short out and take difficult to replace components with them. The picture tube condition will affect value. I hope you can find a new home for it. -Steve

In the midwest sets like that are still turning up fairly regularly and it weighs a ton, so shipping it is probably out of the question.
For a local sale, or someone not too far away and willing to drive to your location, you can advertise it on Craigslist and see if there are any takers.
It might bring as much as $100 on a good day to the right buyer, but that could take time to find someone. If you get anyone interested in coming to look at it you should be flexible with the price if you need to sell quickly. They are almost certainly going to want to test the picture tube before buying to verify it's good or bad as that drastically affects the price and replacements are difficult to come by. Therefore, if it proves to be bad you might be doing well to get even $50.

You kind of just missed a chance to find a buyer. There were a lot of TV collectors in the general area earlier this month (Columbus). For course you would have to have gotten the word out early. Another idea would have been to contact ETF and see if you could get it into the auction. Well, there is always next year. http://earlytelevision.org/2019_convention.html

In the end, the value is...not much. I own four vintage DuMonts, from a 1947 RA-103 Chatham to the 1951 RA-119A Royal Sovereign. All restored by me. Good performers. But, as most anyone here can tell you, the bigger the TV Set, the smaller the price. Old guys just don't want to lug them around. But someone here or on a similar website might make a home for it. It's a nice TV.

Congratulations! I would be very careful on refinishing. The front of the doors is a faux finish sometimes called "Photo Finish" It will strip away and leave very plain looking cheap wood underneath. There is no way to replace it beyond finding another. I would carefully clean it as is and see how it cleans up. Use Napa, Goop or Gojo automotive type waterless hand cleaner. The SMOOTH creamy type NOT the stuff with gritty pumice. It will clean off all the old wax, dirt and grime. It might surprise you I usually wipe the stuff on with my hands rubbing around to loosen the dirt then wipe it off with a soft detail cloth or diaper cloth. -Steve

Thanks for the advice! The TV was painted all over in white around 1960. I was going to pay a furniture refinisher to do it. I’m wondering if you have any advice based on that? I’ve attached a video of it. I really appreciate any help, and that you took the time to write. Randy

My advice is you take pictures from this thread to your re-finisher and explain that the front of the doors are photo finish(like a decal) underneath the white paint. See what they say about that and if they have an idea of how to make it look original once the photo finish dissolves from their striping process. I think your only hope will be to have a professional cabinet maker use real wood veneer to replace the photo finish.

I will do that. The set has been in my family since my Father bought it in 1952. Again, thanks for your help.

One minor snag - the cloth "grill" over the speaker. Is there a replacement for that?

Can you tell me the wording on the labels on the left side (the AM radio)? I'm having decals made. Thanks.

Unfortunately the company that was supplying grill cloth made to match old radios and TVs lost their supplier. So you may have to settle for something that does not match the original cloth.

Bob Andersen has a video of replacing a damaged photofinish with veneer. I can't remember which one it was, maybe a Predicta.

The set is restored and working. These are live, over-the-air pictures from, as they used to call themselves, "The South's First Television Station. Thanks to all who provided advice.

Very nice. According to Wikipedia, that TV station (WTVR, Richmond VA) is exactly as old as I am.

Hey, that is looking good! An RA-113 will produce a great picture when restored. Back in their day, I believe those DuMonts were just about the best quality TVs that money could buy. Enjoy! Phil Nelson Phil's Old Radios https://antiqueradio.org/index.html
