Not sure if this belongs here, in parts, or in tools but I'm trying to figure out a source for super flexible cable I can use to connect my soldering iron to the soldering station base. I've found the perfect stuff online, silicon hi temp super flex. Only problem is, it's about $8.00/ft. Not really a problem, except for the 300 foot minimum order.
Has anyone tried something like this or know of a source for short lengths? I only need about 3', but would be OK if there's a 10 or 25' minimum. 300 seems a bit much.
Basically, I want to replace the rather stiff cable between my iron and its base with a super flex version. Perhaps someone has tried this before. The one I found for $8/ft is super fine strand, silicon insulated, with outer silicon jacked. Good for high temperature which is a plus as well.
....a shot in the dark ..... but usually someone on the forum has done EVERYTHING before ....

Except for the hi-temp part.....mic cable? Or salvage from a dead solder station, or is that what you're trying to get away from? Have an OD spec?

Greetings to Barry and the Forum:
Try EAC sales... click on their banner on the right side of the page here. They have cords for Weller and I think for other irons as well.
Regards,

Tony, quad star mic cable might be OK. It's a bit on the thick side OD wise but maybe I'll give it a try. It's also possibly a bit shy on the conductor gage but I have not actually dissected mine yet. I've got a dud iron I'm going to play with later this week to see what's inside. Doesn't need to be shielded really ... conductor #5 is just a ground.
Jt thanks, I'll give that a try.

Most mic cables are made flexible by using small wire gauge in addition to being shielded, they are NOT designed to carry any high currents. Your soldering station probably runs on 24V with a maximum power of 50-70W. At 70W the current will be 3A, whatever you use must be able to handle this current with a minimum voltage drop.

I think I have nice flexible 3 conductor plus shield that was used with Clear-Com intercom packs which were used to plug in at various outlets in an industrial facility. I think its a silicone insulation and quite flexible.
Would 3 conductor plus shield work?

Thanks, but it needs to be 5 conductor overall .... a pair for the heater, a pair for the sensor, and a ground. The ground can just be a single conductor, or a braid. But if braid, I'd imagine it will make it less flexible overall I appreciate your effort.
