I see one of these for sale. In horrible condition.
Is this a rare manfacturer ? I've seen the basic stuff online about the maker but never one of the radios.

Wattersons were made by the J. W. (Watterson) Davis company in Dallas, TX. They are mostly valuable to Texas collectors because we didn't have many manufacturers in Texas. The 4581 is not one of the most desirable Wattersons but you might find some interest. Definitely not a really valuable radio.

Being a 1946 model, it is probably a Warwick chassis in a Watterson made cabinet.

I don't think Uncle Odis correctly remembered the company founder's name or why the radios were named Watterson. That was the maiden name of the founder's mother. After WW2, Watterson was mainly a cabinet manufacturer and bought radio chassis from the high volume houses. They were in the audio amp business until 2015.
