Recently purchased a house and found a few items left behind. One was this entertainment console with a zenith space commander 600 tv/ record player/ and 8 track. Wood is in amazing condition but tv doesn’t work and record player needs needle. Any info on this piece and possible price would be a huge help. Wife wants it hauled to dump, but the craftsmanship is too nice for me to dump.

Its apx a 1970 combo. The model number on the back will tell the story. Unfortunately it has little
or no value. If you bring it to the dump in most places it will cost you $30 +- ! Unless you want a
new hobby post your location & maybe someone is interested.
The needle is probably no big deal & odds are the TV dont need much. Zeniths tend to last forever......
If nobody wants it ( location, location, location) you can always use it as a stand & run a modern TV
through the speakers & amp for BETTER sound than the crappy little HDTV speakers.

BTW these things are a little bit of history. We try to save them. Someday, maybe 50 or 100 yrs they
WILL be valuable.

A fellow collector I know says:

At this point in time, no TV collector would want that unless they were going to use parts from the TV to fix a standalone TV console they had.

It's highly doubtful that someone who was not a collector might want it because the stereo is nothing fantastic either and the cabinet is not the mid century modern or Danish modern style that is currently in demand.

I agree that in most areas of the US this has serious negative value and one would have to pay to dispose of it. While that was an expensive set in it's day, that day was long ago. Who can predict what might be possible in the future? It takes up too much space to take a chance on leaving it sit there for another 50 years to see if the interest in it changes.

That it's a remote set and probably has the good Chromacolor black matrix picture tube is worth something in my book. If that set was close to me I'd I'd probably pay 50 for the CRT and what amounts to a complete kit to retrofit one of my manual sets to remote.

This isn't exactly true. There are a lot of console stereo collectors out there (who aren't necessarily opposed to TV combos), and depending on where it's located it could likely find a new home. Pluses: it's a desirable cabinet style, it's maybe Zenith's best TV chassis ever, it still has the handset from the "Peak Space Command" era which is worth more than the TV. Minus: It's got the low-end stereo from the malaise era, which means it just has the flopper woofers and a cone tweeter, and that 8-track isn't doing it any favors.

Depending on location someone may want it. There are a few console stereo groups on Facebook that are a good place to start.
