I had them rebuild the brush on my General Radio 10 Amp unit.

Thanks to all the contributors. This is a really great thread!

The links to the replacement brushes are a godsend, as are COM-NAV-ECM's comments about service and fiddling about.

Note that beyond the obvious benchtop utility of a V/T, the information in this thread is important to people using and repairing Tektronix 575 and 576 curve tracers. Both of those devices prominently feature variable transformers in their collector sweep supply circuits. FWIW, the 575 and 576 V/T are not a custom Tektronix parts either. (At least not in mine) The ones I've seen are standard off the shelf items from the regular variable transformer manufacturers.
